Chiguergue

Living memory between stone and landscape

Description

This small but traditional village is located at an altitude of 750 metres, ensuring fabulous views of the coast and nearby islands.

As you explore the village, you will see beautiful old houses and a rich ethnographic heritage evident in the beautiful threshing floors and bread and tile ovens, which take you back to the customs of the past.

You can also enjoy the countryside and the open air on the footpaths that lead into the village. You will love it.

Origin

In its early days, during the 18th century, the village was scattered along the old Chirche road.

In the 19th century, the village underwent some development with the cultivation of prickly pear cacti for cochineal breeding. Today, the inhabitants of Chiguergue make their living from the service sector and export agriculture, both in the municipality of Guía de Isora and in the neighbouring villages.
