Traditions

Sea, midlands and a legacy that lives on

Preserving our roots, the importance of traditions in Guía de Isora.

Guía de Isora is much more than just a place on the map: it is a land steeped in history, customs and cultural expressions that have been passed down from generation to generation, reminding us of who we are and where we come from.

Preserving them means offering new generations a living heritage they can be proud of. It involves passing on knowledge, actively participating in celebrations, and supporting those who keep the flame of our culture alive.

In Guía de Isora, protecting our traditions means protecting our essence. It means ensuring that the richness of our past continues to guide the present and the path towards a future in which memory, identity and coexistence remain our greatest heritage.

The municipality preserves a very recognisable festive and ethnographic heritage: Chirche Traditions Day (showcasing rural life), Carmen Festivities with processions and boats on the coast, Guía Patron Saint Festivities with the emblematic Fire Boat, and Magos Dances that fill the squares with folklore and gastronomy. Here, traditions are not just for show: they are lived out in courtyards, streets, quays and squares, with neighbourhood participation and a strong sense of belonging.

Traditions Day

This is a cultural celebration that pays tribute to the customs and historical legacy of Chirche, a small village in the municipality of Guía de Isora.

During this day, residents and visitors take part in activities that recreate traditional Canarian life. The streets are filled with people dressed in traditional costumes, and there are exhibitions of old tools, demonstrations of traditional crafts, and displays of traditional agriculture and livestock farming.

Gastronomy also plays an important role, with tastings of local products and traditional homemade dishes. In addition, there is no shortage of music and folk dancing, with performances by parrandas and groups performing popular Canarian songs.

Traditions Day in Chirche is not only a celebration, but also a way of preserving cultural identity, promoting coexistence and passing on the value of the town’s roots and customs to new generations.
