Barranco de Erques Protected Landscape

A canyon carved by time

This wonderful natural border divides the municipalities of Adeje and Guía de Isora. Hidden within this natural space is the spectacular Erques ravine, narrow, deep and of great geomorphological interest.

If we venture inside, we can observe cardonal-tabaibal vegetation. And if we pay attention, we can spot birds of prey such as the common kestrel, the common buzzard and the barn owl, and even mountain and long-tailed bats. All this makes this area a truly remarkable place.

In addition, the area is rich in history and culture, with several nearby archaeological sites dating back to pre-Hispanic times.

Access

From Guía de Isora, take the TF-1 towards Adeje and exit at junction 87 onto the TF-82. Continue to approximately kilometre 44, where you will find the turn-off towards Tijoco Alto/Depósito Nuevo de Tijoco Alto. Park next to the end of the tarmac road and follow the path on foot that starts from the reservoir building. The final section is a dirt track without detailed signage, so it is recommended that you use GPS or a route track.

The ravine is within the protected area known as the "Paisaje Protegido del Barranco de Erques" (Erques Ravine Protected Landscape), so it is important to follow the rules: obey the signs, stay on the paths, and be aware that there may be difficult sections.
