Climbing

Height, silence and volcanic rock

One of the most spectacular climbing areas in Tenerife is in Guía de Isora: the Guaria cliff, located within the Montaña de Tejina Natural Monument, one of the protected landscapes in our municipality.

These ancient volcanic walls are home to the island’s longest sport climbing routes – around 90 – although the shape of the rocks also makes it possible to combine this with multi-pitch climbing, which is why many consider it the best climbing spot in Tenerife.

As it is situated within a protected natural landscape, there are specific regulations governing climbing, which may be practised with an annual permit issued by the Cabildo’s Environment Department.

Designated climbing areas

In Guía de Isora, the only designated climbing area is Guaria, so it is important to follow the regulations and only climb in permitted areas. Otherwise, it can be very dangerous and you may not receive prompt assistance if needed.

Furthermore, as this is a protected area and climbing has an impact on the local environment, specific sites have been designated in Guía de Isora and across Tenerife.
