Several centuries ago, Caserío de las Fuentes was known for its importance as an agricultural and livestock centre. It was known as the “Granary and Pantry of Isora” due to its importance in food production, both for local sustenance and to supply other nearby towns.
The origin of the place name Las Fuentes, related to the natural water springs, is due to the ability of the local inhabitants to take advantage of water resources and develop cultivation on jable soil. The fact that they have preserved these agricultural practices over time shows their deep roots and adaptation to the environment.
From the 1950s onwards, a process of gradual depopulation of the hamlet began. This was due to the search for a better quality of life and the lack of infrastructure to meet modern needs. Although the hamlet is still inhabited today, the notable decline in population reflects the social and economic changes that have affected many rural areas.
Despite these changes, Las Fuentes has preserved its historical and cultural heritage. The structures of the traditional houses, the bread ovens, the threshing floors, the pasiles, the terraced vegetable gardens, the wine presses, among other elements, offer a glimpse into the past and allow us to appreciate the way of life of previous generations. Without a doubt, it is a place that invites exploration and discovery of local history.
