The open commercial area comprises three main centres: the town centre of Guía de Isora, Playa de San Juan and Alcalá. At present, there is a greater concentration of businesses in the coastal towns compared with the highlands and midlands.
In this commercial district, the shops are located in two main areas: the historic centre, where most of the town’s administrative activities are based and which is characterised by smaller shops, and the outskirts (Avenida de Isora), where larger premises are occupied by chain stores, supermarkets and restaurants.
The bustling economic activity currently found in Playa de San Juan is concentrated mainly along its three main avenues: Juan Carlos I, del Emigrante and Reina Sofía. These avenues are home to a large number of businesses, predominantly in the catering and food sectors.
The centre of Alcalá is situated to the north of Playa de San Juan and is home to the town’s busiest shopping street, which runs through the town from north to south: Avenida de los Pescadores. However, other side streets such as Mondiola, Núñez de Balboa and Plaza del Llano are also worth mentioning.
