It currently has a population of over 20,000 inhabitants. It also has a rich heritage that constitutes its historical, architectural and cultural identity.
It has the characteristic shape of the municipalities of the western islands, i.e. from sea to summit, encompassing different ecosystems that have traditionally been exploited by the local population.
It is mainly divided into three important areas: the coastal area, the midlands and the summit area; the majority of the population is settled in the coastal and midlands areas.
The municipality of Guía de Isora is located in the south-west of the island of Tenerife and is one of the five largest municipalities in Tenerife, covering an area of 143.43 km² and comprising a total of 17 villages spread from the coast to the upper midlands.
Guía de Isora has several protected natural areas: the entire upper part of the municipality, above 1,000 metres, forms part of the Corona Forestal Natural Park.
Guía de Isora also belongs to the south-western sector of the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park, with examples of historical volcanism and a wide variety of geological materials.
Throughout this vast and varied natural landscape, you can still find local and long-distance trails that were once used to connect the high and mid-altitude villages of the municipality. Today, these trails form the intrinsic network of municipal trails.
In the historic centre of Guía de Isora, declared a site of cultural interest in 2009, there are a large number of buildings representative of traditional building types and styles.
