Tenerife is a wonderful destination for a family holiday. It offers a wide variety of activities and places that children are sure to love. Here are some suggestions:
Loro Parque: this zoo in Puerto de la Cruz, which also has a collection of tropical plants, is famous for its displays of exotic birds, dolphins, sea lions and other animals, as well as its impressive aquarium. Kinderlandia is the children’s play area, recreating a real jungle adventure.
Siam Park: one of the largest water parks in Europe. It offers exciting slides and rides for all ages, and there is an area just for the little ones.
Monkey Park: located in Los Cristianos, this conservation park for primates, birds and reptiles also helps endangered species to breed. Children can watch the animals’ behaviour up close.
Aqualand Costa Adeje: another open-air water park, with huge slides, tubes, a dolphinarium and children’s pools.
Beaches: one of the island’s great attractions. Tenerife has beaches of grey sand, black volcanic sand and golden sand. On the Guía de Isora coast, you will find open-air spots where you can have fun with the little ones.
Jardín Botánico de Tenerife: this gem is in Puerto de la Cruz, and stepping inside is like travelling around the world, as it has plants from all 5 continents. This 18th-century garden is home to an interesting and extensive collection of tropical plants that will transport you to the most exotic destinations.
Mariposario del Drago: located in Icod de los Vinos, next to the Drago Milenario (the thousand-year-old dragon tree), this butterfly house offers a fascinating experience, letting children interact with tropical butterflies in their natural habitat, where they can watch them hatch and breed.
Boat trips to see whales and dolphins: Tenerife is an excellent place for whale and dolphin watching, especially the area known as the Franja Marina Teno-Rasca, which runs along the coast of the municipalities of Buenavista del Norte, Santiago del Teide, Guía de Isora, Adeje and Arona. It is a Special Area of Conservation (ZEC) designed to protect and conserve natural habitat types and species of Community interest.
Hiking in Teide National Park: if your children enjoy nature, you can do some easy walks. In Guía de Isora we offer these eight officially approved routes.
Guía de Isora has a great wealth of natural heritage, with 60% of its territory under some form of protection: barrancos (ravines) of special beauty and volcanic domes close to both the National Park and the Corona Forestal Natural Park.
Remember that Tenerife enjoys a pleasant climate all year round, making it an ideal destination for family holidays in any season. Besides these suggestions, there are many more activities and places to enjoy on the island, so you are sure to find options to suit your children’s interests and ages.
