Tiempo de lectura: 2 minutos
The 4th edition of a highly anticipated sporting event will take place on May 6th at Playa de San Juan in the municipality of Guía de Isora, which is considered one of the most significant sports events on the island.

This engaging competition involves a race that alternates swimming and running without any transitions and features various categories for adults, including the Sprint which covers a distance of 12,360 meters between Abama and Alcalá beach, with 2,515 meters of swimming and 9,845 meters of running.

Another of the races is the Super Sprint, which links the town of Playa de San Juan and Playa de Alcalá with a total of 6,465 metres, 1,215 metres of swimming and 5,250 metres of running.

This exciting race crosses banana plantations and a rugged terrain, putting the participants to the test, but also giving them an unforgettable route.

What is the origin of Swimrun?

But what is the origin of this discipline that mixes running and swimming? This initiative began in the Nordic countries: brothers Mats and Jesper Andersson were having a drink in a bar overlooking the Stockholm archipelago when they came up with the crazy idea of swimming from one island to another and crossing each of them by land.

What started as a simple idea ended up being carried out several times by these friends, who after a few years received the proposal to transform this race into an official event. Thus, it gained popularity in different places, and today we have it in the Canary Islands thanks to DG events.
