Guía de Isora, also known as Guía, is a municipality that belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, towards the west of the island. This municipality is very attractive for tourists, as it has a wide variety of places from the mountains to its coasts, especially its beaches of unparalleled beauty.
One of these beaches, known as Playa de San Juan, is the venue for a special event that has been held for several years. The Alcaraván International Swimming Competition takes place in its calm waters. An opportunity to enjoy adventure with two swims, 1000 and 3000 metres.
This competition, known as “Travesía a Nado Alcaraván” was awarded by the Canarian Swimming Federation, being considered one of the best swims of the year. Last year 2022 saw the registration of more than half a thousand swimmers who came to the beautiful Playa de San Juan to compete in the two categories of 1000 and 3000 metres respectively.
The competition is open to swimmers from the age of 14, with different classification categories, and offers a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of open water swimming in a safe and controlled environment. Within the rules of the crossing, the use of neoprene and the use of a safety buoy are considered optional. This is the responsibility of the swimmers, however, in the event of rough weather or sea conditions, the use of the safety buoy is considered mandatory. In any case, it is an essential experience for any swimmer.
