Guía de Isora:
International Tourist Destination
The municipality of Guía de Isora is located in the southwest on the island of Tenerife. It is one of the five biggest municipalities in Tenerife, covering 143.43 Km2 and is composed of 17 towns and villages that are spread out from the coast to the high midlands.
The municipality currently has a population of over 20,000 inhabitants. Its rich cultural heritage constitutes the municipality’s true historic, architectural, and cultural identity.
Guía de Isora has the typical layout of the municipalities of the western islands. It spreads out from the sea to the mountaintop, encompassing various ecosystems that the locals have traditionally exploited.
The municipality is divided into three main areas: The coast, the midlands, and the area near the mountaintop, with most of the population living along the coast or in the midlands.
Guía de Isora is home to various protected natural areas and the entire upper area of the municipality, rising over 1,000 meters above sea level, is part of the Corona Forestal Natural Park. Moreover, Guía de Isora is part of the southwestern sector of the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park, which has samples of historical volcanic activity and a wide variety of geological material.
Throughout this wide and varied natural landscape, we can still find local and long-distance footpaths that were once used to connect the villages in the highlands with those in the midlands of the municipality. Today, these footpaths are an intrinsic part of a network of municipal trails.
Guía de Isora’s historic center was declared a cultural asset in 2009 and many of its buildings are representative of the region’s typical traditional constructions.
