Description
A local festival in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron of the Canary Islands. Worth noting among the many activities during this festival is the fireworks display, which lasts about 25 minutes and lights up the sky, sea, and the Bay of Alcalá starting at midnight.
This display of light, color, and sound was first celebrated almost a century ago and has become one of the most spectacular fireworks show in Tenerife and probably in the Canary Islands. The Alcalá Fireworks have an added technical difficulty. Most of the explosives have to be set up on boats and transported to the so-called bajas, an area in the village bay full of lava formations. We recommend you use public transport, especially if you’re coming from nearby towns. Location: Alcalá
