Guía de Isora on the road to sustainability
In Guía de Isora we are working to promote a tourism model based on the well-being of our citizens and our territory, creating authentic experiences for travellers through the rich heritage and culture of the municipality.
From the area of tourism we want to direct our efforts to promote an offer that is sustainable in the long term, where the improvement and recovery of cultural heritage, socio-economic development and the circular economy, as well as environmental conservation, are fundamental pillars when making decisions.
In 2021 we began our journey with the commitment to integrate the planning and management of a sustainable tourist destination, through the “Charter of Commitment“, based on the Biosphere methodology promoted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), in which we take responsibility for directing our efforts towards responsible tourism management.
In November of the same year, we decided to get fully involved by obtaining Biosphere Certification. Previously, a diagnosis of Guía de Isora was carried out based on the actions that have been carried out from the different areas of the City Council, through which we were initially certified. The Biosphere methodology provides us with guidance and a series of guidelines on which we must constantly work, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN Agenda 2030, acting as a tool for the sustainable development of the tourist destination that includes social, environmental and economic perspectives.
In the video below, we will better understand what the SDGs are and why it is important that at a social level, including all individuals, organisations and companies, we establish a turning point on the commitment we have with the planet, which directly affects the well-being and opportunities that are generated in society.
A quick guide for the committed traveller
We are aware that we need education and a lot of outreach to be able to push ourselves towards ingrained values of awareness and respect for the planet, as well as for humanity. We have decided to create a small guide for travellers, based on the “Definitive Guide to Sustainable Tourism 2022/2023” produced by Biosphere.
It proposes examples of practices that contribute sustainably to the destination in their travels, according to the different SDGs, which provide the opportunity to live genuine and authentic experiences, promoting the conservation of our heritage and collaborating with the local population.

The Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification and tool is aimed at companies of different types within the tourism sector. By taking part in it, you have the opportunity to improve the sustainable management of your business, through its simple and intuitive online platform. In it, you can show the efforts you are making, as well as incorporate other examples that the tool itself provides and follow the steps of the Sustainability Action Plan that Biosphere creates according to the characteristics of the company in question.
In addition to contributing to improving the welfare of society and the planet, you can improve the brand image and positioning of your company, since users are increasingly demanding more commitments to sustainability by the services or products they consume; it allows you to increase productivity and reduce costs, both for the more efficient management of resources and for social responsibility in the working environment; it makes it possible to comply with new laws, providing an advantageous situation in the regulations relating to sustainability.
From the area of Tourism of Guía de Isora we want to encourage the business fabric of the municipality to grow, together with us, in this project. That is why we want to give you the opportunity to join Biosphere for free, where through simple practices you can see positive results for everyone.
Depending on your company’s readiness and circumstances there are two ways to join:
- Biosphere Committed: which involves the first steps to start your journey of continuous improvement towards sustainability and is easily achieved by demonstrating initial sustainability improvement efforts.
- Biosphere Certified: which recognises sustainable efforts and continuous work with the development of a plan for corporate sustainability management, with which the company contributes to the fulfilment of the 17 SDGs, the 169 goals of the 2030 Agenda and the 3 areas of sustainability. To obtain it, it is necessary to achieve and demonstrate an optimal level of sustainable efforts that a third-party auditor will examine to determine whether the company’s sustainability work has been recognised as Biosphere Certified.
